Pro se litigants can $ave a lot of
money by researching applicable law themselves.
It's as easy as reading
about and writing about what you know about your case. It's not enough to
know that you have been wronged. You need to be able to tell someone else! And, you need to tell someone in $$$$ what you want from your opposing
party.
When you are a pro se litigant you must follow court procedures or lose. Litigants cannot claim ignorance of Law. lawyers try to circumvent it to build their case on your errors in statement.
Local libraries usually have reference books on various courts' rules and procedures. "There are many self-help books available that provide simple forms for family and business legal actions where there is no contest."
Computer software today
actually replaces attorneys with virtual interviews and courts provide fill-in formats for filing initial pleadings.
Pro se defendants have the responsibility to follow procedures more closely, because plaintiffs have the
"burden of proof".
As a pro
se plaintiff, though, there is more latitude. Judges take into
consideration your lack of training, but opposing attorneys use that
against you to trip you up on procedure. You always have an opportunity to refute defendants claims, and ten days following to request a reconsideration of judgment if law was circumvented, mis-stated, or applied with
an eroneous precedent.
